The traditional name of the star Hassaleh was 'Alkab', an abbreviation of Al-ka'b dhi'l' Inan الكعب ذي العنان, which in Arabic means 'heel of the left foot of the carriage driver'. In China she was known as 五 車 一 The First Star of the Five Cars.
Hassaleh is a orange bright gigant star of spectral type K3 II, with a surface temperature of 4160 K. It has a rotation speed of 8 km/s.
Photometric observations were carried out in 1992, August 1994, June 2007 and 2008.
