Denebola [Beta Leonis, beLeo, β Leo] is the 2nd brightest star in the constellation Leo (the Lion), with a visual magnitude of +2,14. It is located at a distance of 36 light years from the solar system.
The traditional name 'Denebola' is an abbreviation of 'Deneb Alased', which derives from the Arabic phrase ذنب الاسد 'ðanab al-asad', which means 'the tail of the lion'. The Chinese designated her as 五帝 座 一 (Wǔdìzuò-yī), the first star of the five-star asterism 'Headquarters of the Five Emperors'.
Al-Biruni, an 11th-century Muslim scholar and polymath, wrote: "The heat goes away when this star rises, and the cold disappears when it sets". Later, in the fifteenth century, astronomer Ulugh Beg called it 'Al Ṣarfah', which means 'the climate modifier'.
Denebola is a white main sequence dwarf star of spectral type A3 V, with a surface temperature of 8500 K. It has a rotation speed of 128 km/s.
Photometric observations were carried out in 1991 and November 1997.

The traditional name 'Algieba' comes from the Arabic الجبهة Al-Jabhah, which means 'the forehead'. In China it was known as 軒轅 十二, the Twelfth Star of Xuanyuan, the Yellow Emperor.
Algieba is a orange bright gigant star of spectral type K0 III, with a surface temperature of 4470 K.
It is a system formed by 2 components. In November 2009, an exoplanet of 2.1 Jupiter masses was discovered, located at a distance of 2.6 AU around the primary star.
Photometric observations were carried out in the year 2010.

The name 'Regulus' comes from Latin and means 'prince' or 'young king'. In Arabic it was known as 'Qalb Al Asad' قلب الأسد, which means 'the heart of the lion'. In China it was known as 轩辕 十四, the Fourteenth Star of Xuanyuan, the Yellow Emperor. In Babylon it was known as 'Sharru', which means 'the king'. In Persia it was known as 'Miyan', which means 'the center' and also as 'Venant', one of the four real stars of the Persian monarchy.
It is part of the group of Behenian stars, a selection of fifteen stars in the medieval astrology of Europe and the Arab world.
Regulus is a blue-white subgigant star of spectral type B8 IV, with a surface temperature of 12460 K. It has a rotation speed of 347 km/s. Its speed of rotation is extremely fast (15.9 hours), due to which has a very ovaloide and a photosphere much more warm and luminous in the poles. It is very close to the limit, if its rotation speed was a 15% faster, the gravity of the star would not be sufficient to contain its material.
It is a multiple system, consisting of 3 components: the main white-blue star, a white dwarf that orbits it, and at 5000 AU another couple, formed by an orange and a red dwarf, separated each other by approximately 100 UA.
Photometric observations were carried out in the years 2005, 2008, 2009 and 2014.
In July of 1959, coinciding with the Walt Disney movie "Sleeping Beauty" (1959), Venus occulted Regulus.
