Menkalinan [beAur], amazing capacity to cope with action video games (or the real situations that they represent)

Menkalinan [Beta Aurigae, beAur] is the 2nd brightest star in the constellation Auriga (the Charioteer), with a visual magnitude of +1,90. It is located at a distance of 81 light years from the solar system.

The traditional name 'Menkalinan' derives from the Arabic منكب ذي العنان 'mankib ðī-l-'inān', which means 'the coachman's shoulder (transported by horses)'.

Menkalinan is a white subgigant star of spectral type A1 IV, with a surface temperature of 9350 K. It has a rotation speed of 33 km/s.

It is a system formed by 2 components, which form an eclipsing spectroscopic binary, whose set brightness oscillates, every 47.5 hours, between apparent magnitude +1,85 and +1,93.

Photometric observations were carried out in the year 1994 and in June 2007.

Position in relation to the ecliptic:

  • Longitude:  90.2º ( 0º11' Cancer; square 90º, 0º11' orb)
  • Latitude:  21.5º (21º31' Aries; golden aspect 21º15' [=golden aspect 68º45' > 0º Cancer], 0º16' orb).

Position in relation to the celestial equator:

  • Right ascension:  89.9º (29º53' 3rd House; square 90º, 0º07' orb)
  • Declination:  44.9º (14º57' 2nd House; semisquare 45º, 0º03' orb)

Menkalinan is a star that reminds the quality of the planets Mars, Jupiter and the Sun. The symbolic image 'the shoulder' refers to the ability to withstand and handle very difficult situations; 'the coachman (transported by horses)' refers to the ability to steer, when moving at high speed along a road of many curves.

Menkalinan is related with an amazing capacity to cope with action video games (or the real situations that they represent), in which the movement changes very quickly, generating a lot of emotion.

Action videogames reached their climax in 2007, during the generation of PS3 and XBOX360 game consoles.

"Tomb Raider" (PS3, 2013)

Keanu Reeves, actor of the movie "Speed" (1994), has Menkalinan in the Ascendant of the Moon-Node Horoscope (with Saturn in the cusp of the 5th Moon-Node House).

Akira Toriyama, author of the manga "Dragon Ball" (1984), has Menkalinan at the Descendant of the Moon-Node Horoscope.
