Paikauhale [Tau Scorpii, taSco, τ Sco] is the 8th brightest star in the constellation Scorpius (the Scorpion), with a visual magnitude of +2,82. It is located at a distance of 470 light years from the solar system.

The Hawaiian dictionary defines the word 'paikauhale' [ˈpəiˈkəuˈhale] as "going from house to house, in search of pleasure or entertainment", and also as "homeless wanderer, who alternates between various host sites". In China, this star was known as 心 宿 三 (Xīn Xiù sān), 'The Third Star of the Heart'.

Paikauhale is a a blue-white main sequence dwarf star of spectral type B0 V, with a surface temperature of 29850 K. It has a rotation speed of 24 km/s.

Photometric observations were carried out in May 2000 and in the year 2003.

The traditional name 'Lesath' comes from the Arabic 'Al Las'ah', which means 'sting', or also, 'bite of a poisonous animal or insect'. In China it was known as 尾 宿 九 (Wěi Xiù jiǔ), which means 'the ninth star in the tail'.

Lesath is a blue-white subgigant star of spectral type B2 IV, with a surface temperature of 22800 K. It has a rotation speed of {} km/s.

The traditional name 'Shaula' derives from the Arabic الشولاء 'al-šawlā'', which means 'the raised tail (of the scorpion)'. In China she was known as 宿 八 (Wěi Xiù bā), 'the eighth star in the tail'.

Antares [Alfa Scorpii, alSco, α Sco] is the brightest star in the constellation Scorpio, with an apparent magnitude of +1,09. It is a red supergiant situated at approximately 550 light years from Earth. Its luminosity is 10 000 times greater than the sun. Due to its low surface temperature (3600 K), emits quite a lot in the infrared band.

It has a radius 645 times higher than the Sun. If it were located in the center of our solar system, its surface would extend beyond Mars and the asteroid belt (3.4 UA). Its colossal size in comparison with its mass, gives as a result a very low density. In its surface blows a stellar wind that makes the star be wrapped in a cloud of gas.

In 1819, during a lunar occultation, was discovered its companion (although its existence was not confirmed until 1846), a white-blue star, located at 550 UA, wich orbits every 2500 years.

Due to its nearness to the ecliptic, Antares can be occulted by the Moon, (the last occultation occurred on 31 July 2009) and very rarely by Venus (the last occultation occurred in the year 525 BC).

Antares has a declination of -26º and is located at 9º Sagittarius (-5º of celestial latitude).

The name Antares derives from Antar (Antarah ibn Shaddad), the warrior-hero celebrated in the pre-Islamic poems Mu'allagat. There, the courage, heroism and the ethic code of the chivalrous are emphasized. Antares it is also known in Arabic as Kalb to Akrab 'the Heart of Scorpion'. In Persia was called Dharind, 'the one that grabs'.
